Donald Trump is demanding justice for the murder of George Floyd. The president took to Twitter earlier today where he officially issued a statement regarding Floyd's death. "At my request, the FBI and the Department of Justice are already well into an investigation as to the very sad and tragic death in Minnesota of George Floyd," he wrote. "I have asked for this investigation to be expedited and greatly appreciate all of the work done by local law enforcement. My heart goes out to George’s family and friends. Justice will be served!"
Though knowledge of the FBI's involvement in the investigation was already brought to light, Trump's clearly taking this matter seriously by calling on the Department of Justice to investigate Floyd's death. The four officers involved have already been fired, though charges haven't been laid against them yet.
Trump's response follows the protests that took place in the streets of Minneapolis yesterday calling for justice and actual repercussions for the officers involved in the case.
Police statements initially issued claimed that Floyd was resisting arrest at the time of his death which turned out to be false. Surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant emerged this morning that revealed the moments leading up to Floyd's murder. In the footage, there's no evidence that Floyd resisted arrest at all.
