The president had been dodging the issue.

President Donald Trump has essentially ignored the fact that Senator John McCain passed away, ever since the news of his death broke on Saturday. Although reporters have asked him to comment on the loss, Trump remained tight-lipped, flagrantly dodging any questions pertaining to McCain. Finally, a statement has been officially issued by the president.

"Despite our differences on policy and politics, I respect Senator John McCain’s service to our country and, in his honor, have signed a proclamation to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff until the day of his interment."

Trump's letter goes on to state all the other steps that are being put into motion as the country mourns its loss.

The flag had been lowered to the middle position, a signifier of mourning, Saturday evening. Then, it was pulled back into its regular position just after midnight on Sunday. This occurrence was strange considering the fact that other government buildings, including the US capitol, still held their flags halfway up their pole in honor of the deceased senator.

Although Trump made no time to officially acknowledge his fellow politician until now, he had time to honor Kim Kardashian and praise her for being a "good wife."
