Last year DMX was hit with 14 counts of tax evasion where he was looking at 40 years behind bars for allegedly hiding out $1.7 million as a way to avoid paying federal taxes. New documents via TMZ say the U.S. District Attorney's Office is recommending the rapper serves five years in prison when he's sentenced next week.
The publication says prosecutors are urging the judge to "send the message" to the "Party Up" rapper that "star power doesn't entitle someone to a free pass."
After X dodged the 40-year sentence from his first trial he was later sent to jail for failing a drug test and now prosecutors want to make sure he's learned from his mistakes.
At the beginning of the year, DMX was caught at an airport bar slamming back shots when he was supposed to be traveling with a sober coach.
"You won't know what God is willing to do for you until you're in a situation where you need him to do it for you," he said in a video. "So I praise God for these difficult situations. Because it's in these situation that I'm aware of what God is willing to do for me. I know what God is capable of doing but I won't know what he's willing to do for me until I need him to do it for me."
