The idea of announcing a release date far in advance, and methodically working your way towards it, with carefully planned singles, video releases and the like, has almost gone extinct. There's only a certain type of artist that can make a properly-planned release date work without a hitch -- it's a mega-star -- like 2 Chainz. The rapper's Pretty Girls Like Trap Music was delayed at first, which, as hip-hop fans, is something we're all too familiar with. Following the initial delay, Tity Boi announced a new release date for the album, around two months in advance. The Atlanta trapper-turned-rapper was then able to ride a wave of anticipation and excitement that hearkened back to his debut album, until PGLTM finally dropped at the end of last week -- alongside two other top-tier releases from fellow ATLiens, Young Thug and Big Boi -- successfully ranking at #1 on the iTunes chart, even so.
So, early indication would say that 2 Chainz's PGLTM lived up, and continues to live up (it's only been four days, guys) to the hype. Admittedly, been on the hype train as well, heading to Atlanta at the top of the month to chop it up with Tity Boi IRL about the album, but mostly about his mindset and work ethic. We were enlightened, to say the least.
