Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy, Diddy, the short-lived "Swag;" Sean Combs has gone through many name changes over the course of his career, but he hasn't settled on a title just yet. On his 48th birthday, the rapper and business mogul formerly known as Diddy announced yet another name change.
"I have some very serious, serious news. I’ve been praying on this. I decided that—I know it’s risky and I know it’s corny to some people—but I decided to change my name again," he said in a video posted to Twitter. "I’m just not who I am before. I’m something different. So my new name is LOVE aka Brother Love. I will not be answering to Puffy, Diddy, Puff Daddy or any of my other monikers but LOVE or Brother Love."
So far, Combs has yet to change his screen name or handle from Diddy on Twitter.
In 2014, Combs announced that he would be changing his stage name from Diddy back to his original moniker Puff Daddy. The name was used for his 2015 mixtape MMM (Money Makin' Mitch). His 2015 single "Finna Get Loose" was credited to Puff Daddy and The Family, and was set to appear on No Way Out 2, an album which has yet to be released. Though never announced officially, the Bad Boy rapper has primarily gone back to using Diddy more recently.
In 2011, Combs announced that for one week only, he'd be known simply as Swag. "I was sick for a week, and I had a lot to think about when I was almost dying underneath the covers with a fever,” he said. "But I’m not dead, I am alive. So I decided that I’m going to change my name for a week, in honor of my comeback. I’m not going as Puff, Puffy, Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Diddy, King Combs – for this week only, you can call me by my new name Swag."
