Coming off his thrilling knockout victory against Alexander Volkov at UFC 229 last Saturday, Derrick "The Black Beast" Lewis is officially booked to challenge Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 230. That PPV event is scheduled for November 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Cormier (21-1, 1 NC), the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champ, last competed at UFC 226 in July, where he knocked out Stipe Miocic to win the 265-pound heavyweight belt.
Lewis (21-5, 1 NC) rallied to defeat Volkov at UFC 229 last weekend with a last second knockout, marking his ninth win in his last 10 official fights. According to MMAFighting, Lewis has 10 KOs in his UFC career, which is tied with Cain Velasquez for the most in UFC history. With just weeks to prepare for the title shot next month, The Beast has already begun promoting the fight on his instagram account.
Two years ago, Cormier mentioned at a UFC 200 press conference that Lewis threatened to knock him out backstage before the event, and that sound bite now serves as the foundation for Lewis' latest social media masterpiece.
