Demi Lovato almost lost her life to her drug addiction. As she finds her way to recovering from the health issue, her mother is opening up about the traumatic night. Diane De La Garza details her experience of her daughter's overdose.
"I was looking at my phone and all these tests were coming in. .. And the first lines of these texts said...I'm praying for Demi. I was shocked, I thought, 'What is going on?'"
Her heart dropped. Her first instinct, based on the messages she had received, was to check TMZ to see what they were reporting, in case they had published information about her daughter. When she finally found out about the overdose, she was in shock. De La Garza says she never imagined getting this news about any of her children.
Her worry was somewhat quelled when she saw Demi in the hospital.
"She just didn't look good at all. She was in bad shape. But I said to her,' Demi, I'm here. I love you.' And at that point, she said, 'I love you too.'"
Until then, Demi was conscious but didn't seem to be able to speak.
"We just didn't know for 2 days if she was going to make it or not."
