Break out the gabbagool.

The Sopranos is one of the greatest television series of all time. With groundbreaking character development and a tour-de-force performance from the late James Gandolfini, David Chase's HBO masterpiece has earned a place in the annals of television history. While the ambiguous ending left fans divided, it felt like a fitting send-off for one of TV's great antiheroes; not only that, but it opened the door for an eventual reprise, should Chase once again find himself inspired. Evidently, it seems the day has finally come. While we're not going to be getting a sequel, it would appear we're in for a return to the world of The Sopranos.

According to a report from Deadline, David Chase has apparently signed on to produce and co-write an original film called The Many Saints Of Newark. The film, which is being produced by New Line, will take place in the 1960s, and feature several characters from the original series. The report claims that the script centers around the 1967 Newark Riots, which took place in New Jersey. Flashbacks previously followed Tony in his boyhood years, giving us a glimpse at his imposing father, "Johnny Boy." It stands to reason that the beloved Uncle Junior might make an appearance as well.

OGs Paulie Gualtieri and Silivio Dante also rolled in Johnny Boy's crew, so the prequel could very well feature appearances from their younger counterparts. One thing's for certain - it will be great to revisit the rich world of The Sopranos, and spending some time with these iconic characters will no doubt prove a welcome reunion.
