Damian Lillard spent a significant portion of the off-season sharpening his tools on the mic. His newest release is a collaboration with veteran singer/producer Raphael Saadiq in partnership with Adidas. Lillard and Saadiq both hail from Oakland; Saadiq went to high school with Lillard's mother. The song is called "Hero," and it is about determination and hope.
An accompanying video, which you can watch below, offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the how track came together. Saadiq's musicianship is incredible. "They say if you wanna play like an amateur you watch the amateurs," he says. "If you wanna play like a pro you watch the pros.”
Quotable Lyrics
I want to see us all rise above that poverty line
Teach 'em how to cross their Ts, put a dot on them Is
Lot of folks fell victim how a lot of them died
Swallow pride to survive and it got me some time
