A protest in California was escalating this past weekend, and Black Lives Matter supporters were surprised to see who stepped forward to make sure things didn't turn violent. Huntington Beach is known for its sandy beaches and blue skies, but many people took time away from their "Safer-At-Home" schedules to gather together to protest the killing of George Floyd and others who have been victims of systematic racism. UFC fighter Chuck Liddell was one of the many who marched, and at one point The Iceman was captured speaking with protesters as tensions began to rise.
“It’s good to see people defending their city,” Chuck Liddell said to reporters. “It’s terrible. Violence begets violence. Violence doesn’t help anybody. We all know what happened was wrong. Everybody I know thinks it was wrong. It’s hard to watch. This doesn’t help it. Destroying cities, destroying people, hurting people does not do any good for anybody. Hey, protest all you want; just do it peacefully.”
In a video shared by a news station, Liddell is seen playing the part of peacemaker as one person even physically pushes against the championed fighter. As riots and looting have broken out in many cities across America, Chuck Liddell wanted to make sure that the message of the marching didn't fall by the wayside due to violent acts. Watch below.
