Chris Brown is not only one of the biggest R&B stars in the world, but he once made up half of what was potentially the most talked-about celebrity couple in the world. When he and Rihanna were an item, they seemingly had the perfect thing going. However, once word came out that Brown physically abused RiRi, a dark cloud was placed over the male singer's moral compass that he hasn't quite been able to escape in the years since. In a recently released snippet from his documentary Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life, the film's subject broke down the night he lost control in graphic detail.
Before he goes to that dark place however, Brown breaks down how he met Rihanna and that, when he suggested that they be more than just friends, she scoffed at the idea. "She said, 'You ain't sure, I don't think you wanna do that.' She was like, 'You ain't ready.' I was like, 'Nah, I am, I'm ready, for real," detailed Brown, who later confesses that he told Rihanna, in that moment, that he loved her. In fact, prior to their MTV VMA performance together, Brown said that they had already been dating for about 8 months. Their relationship seemed to be progressing without any tremendous conflict, but that all changed the night of February 8th, 2009.
According to TMZ, Brown explained that the incident all started when RiRi was going through his text messages and found something she wasn't too keen on. Things allegedly escalated quickly, with his recollection being that "she tried to kick me, but then I really hit her, with a closed fist, I punched her." It gets worse from there: "I busted her lip. When I saw it, I was in shock. I was like, 'F**k, why the hell did I hit her? From there she just spit in my face ... spit blood in my face and it enraged me even more."
Brown says the incident is going to haunt him forever. You can check out a video clip from the documentary where he discusses the incident in more detail below.
