Chance The Rapper has acquired some powerful cosigns over the years. Kanye West and Dave Chappelle are just two of many highly regarded people who have shown the Chicago emcee love, and they just so happened to be the two people Chance joined for lunch Sunday. Though he did not reveal what the three talents may have been discussing over a meal, he did refer to West and Chappelle as his "mentors" in a tweet sent Sunday Afternoon.
Of course, Kanye and Chance's collaborative history is already well established. Chance delivered a scene-stealing verse on "Ultralight Beam," the opening track of Ye's 2016 album The Life Of Pablo, while Kanye returned the favor by appearing on Chance's "All We Got," the first track on his 2016 project Coloring Book. This was all the result of many sessions the two took part in at the time, with Chance also working on records like "Famous" and "Waves."
As for Dave, the celebrated comedian showed up as a special guest at Chance The Rapper's open mic night in Chicago back in January. In July, Chappelle announced that Chance would be one of a few guests including Lauryn Hill and Yasiin Bey to perform at his NYC shows.
Chance recently premiered new music with Daniel Caesar on Stephen Colbert. Last we heard, Chance was considering releasing his official debut album as his next project. Up to this point, Chance has only released mixtapes, which have been released for free in some way or another (Coloring Book being made available on streaming services and SoundCloud but not sold on iTunes). Kanye West has also been rumored to be working on a new project. Could this meeting have something to do with a future collaboration? It seems likely the three would have talked shop at some point, but this could have very well just been a casual meal shared among friends. Either way, it's exciting to see the three artists in the same photograph.
