This year, the usually highly-anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance was shrouded in controversy when Travis Scott and Big Boi both made the decision to join Maroon 5 onstage during the broadcast despite calls to boycott the NFL for their alleged treatment of Colin Kaepernick for his decision to kneel during the national anthem during his time with the San Francisco' 49ers.
Several performers turned down the gig originally, including Cardi B, Rihanna, and Pink in an effort to stand in solidarity with Kaepernick.
Following Sunday's performance, CeeLo Green took to Twitter to congratulate Big Boi on a job well done when the Atlanta legend appeared to perform his "The Way You Move" track alongside Sleepy Brown and Maroon 5. In his attempt to commend his friend and collaborator, though, CeeLo may have ruffled a few feathers when he called out those critical of Big Boi's decision.
"Yo big we riding wit you fam DO THAT SHIT! Fuck these so called protesters you just got 100m worth of press. I’ll kill for you," the Atlanta-bred artist penned in a tweet.
Naturally, those who were in support of the boycott didn't take too kindly to CeeLo's words, highlighting the fact that the protest is designed to underscore Kaepernick's stand against racial discrimination.
"Those protesters are protesting inequities in law enforcement and police brutality and doing it for people of color like us," writes one user.
