TLC was a very influential rap/R&B group, having scored nine top ten hits on the Billboard charts and several multi-platinum albums, before suffering a tragic loss after the death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez in 2002. While the two remaining members, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas continued to perform and release music as a duo, they announced that their most recent album, TLC, would be their last.
T-Boz and Watkins recently sat down for a video with Beats 1 Radio, to speak about several topics, one of which was rap sensation Cardi B, and her obvious homage to the group during her performance at the first weekend of the Coachella music festival. The white outfit she wore was incredibly similar to the outfits that TLC once wore to the Grammy Awards, and she had her hair done up in the same style as Left Eye.
T-Boz said in the interview that she appreciated the homage. "I know she wore my outfits at the Grammys and she wore Lisa's hair. It was our whole Grammys TLC feel when we were on stage, and she said Left Eye on one song, and paid homage to TLC on another song, our "Creep" song, and then our name, too," said T-Boz. "She did it twice and she also paid us love on our page. So a lot of love — it was awesome."
The group also goes on to discuss the impact of TLC's legacy, the 16th anniversary of Left Eye's death, and keeping her spirit alive. Check out the audio clips down below:
