Cardi B and Bruno Mars have made quite the musical pair so far in 2018, offering a new twist on the latter's track "Finesse," which was originally included on his 24K Magic album. With a gloriously nostalgic video that even Jim Carrey was totally blown away by, the song has become one of the first really massive crossover hits of 2018. Now, according to Billboard, the "Finesse" remix has equaled a chart record that was last accomplished by the King of Pop himself.
The 90's-style track has risen all the way to No. 3 on the Hot 100, up a total of 32 spots from its position last week. This feat is only the second time in the chart’s history that a single has gone from No. 35 all the way to No. 3; the other act to accomplish this was Michael Jackson with his 1991 hit “Black or White.” You can relive (or watch the first time) the magic of the music video below.
The single is also the fourth Top 10 that Cardi has had so far this year, a feat that puts her in elite company, alongside superstars like Beyoncé. This comes after she became the first woman since Lauryn Hill to have an unassisted song top the Hot 100 chart, and her continued success has put to bed any rumors of her inability to sustain strong popularity.
Where does the remix to "Finesse" rank in Cardi B's discography? Is it better than a single such as "Bodak Yellow," or does it pale in comparison to her earlier work? Sound off in the comments.
