Canelo Alvarez & Daniel Jacobs will put all the Middleweight straps on the line in a unification bout.

As always, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez makes a habit of booking his biggest title fights on Cinco de Mayo, when his homeland Mexico is in the liveliest of spirits. On May 4th, the weekend of Cinco de Mayo, Canelo Alvarez will put his alphabet titles up against Daniel Jacob's IBF crown, the missing piece to his collection. But make no mistake about it, the no. 3 ranked Daniel Jacobs has never been a pushover, not even once.

Jacobs may have come up short against Gennady Golovkin, who subsequently lost to Canelo in controversial fashion, but he's certainly never looked out place, much less against the fighting spirit of Kazakhstan, when they danced for 12 rounds in March of 2017.

"I'm happy to announce my next fight during the festive weekend of Cinco de Mayo," Alvarez said in an announcement corroborated by his promoters over at Golden Boy. "I will unify my middleweight titles against Daniel Jacobs on one of the two most important dates that belong to me. I have no doubt that I will be victorious and that I'll be one step away from becoming the undisputed middleweight world champion."

Canelo last fought on December 15th in a convincing victory over then-Super Middleweight champ Rocky Fielding. Unless he's forced to relinquish the WBA strap he just captured, Canelo is an ideal place to choose his next career path, if successful against Daniel Jacobs. Should he lose to Jacobs, Canelo will undoubtedly consider moving to the Super Middleweight division full-time. Golovkin rematches remain a point of interest for both fighters, as do incoming challenges from Jermall and Jermell should they broach the divide.
