Burna Boy is none too pleased with his placement on the Coachella lineup and has taken to social media to voice his displeasure. A big player in the intercontinental Afrobeats racket, Burna Boy feels that his name should be enlarged on the media poster and placed above what he deems lesser names. Burna is scheduled to perform on the closing day of the festivities (Sunday 14th & 21) on the day/night as Ariana Grande.
Without being overly-pedantic, Burna Boy insisted that he was an "African Giant" in his own right, and is therefore deserving of better press from the Coachella committee. Burna Boy spoke in the imperative when he wielded his demands on social media, "(I) will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means," he insisted. "Fix tings quick please."
Burna Boy's placement on Sunday's lineup puts him behind names like SOFI TUKKER, Gucci Gang, and Jon Hopkins at the same opacity. Above him in the pecking order are musicians like Kaytranada, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pusha-T, and Blood Orange.
Regardless of where he stands on the card, Burna Boy is right to assume the mantle of an "African Giant," in the sense that Afrobeats is among the greatest musical exports the World has seen in recent memory. Burna Boy indubitably figures as one of the biggest acts in Nigeria's bustling scene. It's unclear whether Coachella will yield to Burna Boy's demands or give him the icy shoulder going forward - stay tuned.
