If the pseudonym "Sonder" seems at all unfamiliar to the senses, allow me to formally introduce them to you, in their individual parts. Sonder is a trio spearheaded by Grammy-nominated singer Brent Faiyaz, at the behest of his two producer-friends: Atu and Dpat. Before Brent Faiyaz became the viable singing act he is Today, Sonder was the main receptacle for all his concentrated efforts.
The early EPs of 2016 didn't produce any singles of note, almost by design. It wasn't 'til the very next year that any member of Sonder, much less Faiyaz, explained the group's mythology to the outside World. Even those among us who neglected to search the origins of "Sonder" must have seen the word in writing somewhere, for Faiyaz' debut record beckons to it directly. It's a project where the Baltimore-native disavows the excesses attributed with the R&B lifestyle.
On "What You Heard," Faiyaz picks up where he left off, in that regard. After establishing his name in the industry, and unburdening himself of all the excessive tropes associated with the genre, Faiyaz is hell-bent on finishing the passion project he started, with those that know him best.
Quotable Lyrics:
When I get you to myself... it's murder
What's the word?
Tell me what you heard.
