BET’s much-hyped show “The New Edition Story” premiered on Tuesday night and started off with a serious bang. The story about the formation of one of the first ever boy bands absolutely killed it, dominating most of Tuesday’s network programming and becoming BET’s highest rated premiere in five years.
The first episode garnered 4.4 million viewers between BET and its sister network Centric. New Edition were formed in Boston in the early 1980s and consisted of Ricky Bell, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Ronnie DeVoe and Michael Bivins. They birthed a boy band movement that still hasn’t fully died, and went on to become famous artists in their own right after the group’s break up (Bobby Brown and Bell Biv DeVoe).
The miniseries is structured as a three-part special airing on consecutive nights. The third and final installment of the breakout hit is on tonight on BET and Centric at 9pm EST. Catch up on the first two episodes on BET.com here and here.
