Highbridge, Bronx rapper and singer A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie released his debut album The Bigger Artist through Atlantic on Friday. Gaining steam on SoundCloud over the last year, Boogie finds himself collaborating with some high profile artists on his new project including Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Robin Thicke, as well as a few like-minded peers such as PnB Rock, YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Kodak Black. One of the more memorable matchups on the album arrives early with "Undefeated," a collab with Atlanta's 21 Savage. The instrumental comes from a reliable team made up of Migos and Drake beatmaker Murda Beatz and !llmind, who has credits for J. Cole, Kanye West, and many more under his belt.
A Boogie uses his catchy, melodic songwriting sense to great effect on the hook. Later, 21 arrives with a verse full of dark punchlines. I just whipped a quarter brick and now my wrist gone / I'm A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie 'til the clip gone / Alley Sosa get you whacked off a flip phone / Zone 6 n---as love sending hits home / Bodies catching up to me but I'm too rich for 'em," he raps.
In a recent interview with Montreality, A Boogie revealed on the various signing offers he got from prominent figures in rap. "Diddy reached out, Khaled reached out, a lot of people reached out," he said, but mentioned one conversation he didn't get to have with one of his idols. "I think the only person that hasn't reached out to try to sign me, when everybody was looking to sign me, was probably JAY-Z. I ain't feel no type of way, but I felt like, 'Damn,' because I always [dreamed] about something like that. That was just one of my goals. But after a while, I had to wake up and realize, 'Damn, I could become bigger than that, feel me.'"
Quotable Lyrics:
I think it’s catching up to me
Riding in a Hellcat
Ain't no catching up to me
This is not a 458, this a GTB
The Maybach came with a new TV
Headshots, fuck feet
Bitch I got more bodies
Than a general in Vietnam
Fuck yo n---a, he a bum
Strippers picking up the crumbs
Hundreds in my pocket
You would think that I had beef with ones
