While Gnarls Barkley have previously enjoyed some serious commercial success, particularly through their ubiquitous single "Crazy," the duo have only released a pair of albums. In fact, the duo of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse haven't released a project since 2008's The Odd Couple, which featured the stellar "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" and "Run (I'm A Natural Disaster)." Now, however, it appears that Gnarls Barkley are working on a brand new album, which is said to be a "prequel" to their debut St. Elsewhere.
In an interview with DJBooth, CeeLo elaborates on the process, stating "“We have already started on a new album. We’re halfway in and we have some overtures from the other projects that may not have stood the test of time, we don’t know yet.... “All of this is all prequel. I think [Danger Mouse and I] are kind of rebuilding from the ground up. There is no building without a basement, it’s got to come up out the dirt; come up out the mud.”
Apparently, CeeLo and Danger Mouse are planning on meeting in early 2018 to put in some serious work on the project. Green reveals the fast paced, intensive sessions were the same way St. Elsewhere came to fruition in 2006.
