The top highlights from this year's show.

This year's Soul Train Awards proved to deliver on a handful of cultural highlights that had plenty of us talking throughout the night. The evening, geared towards celebrating the best in R&B and Soul included a nostalgic performance from girl group SWV, featuring Method Man and U-God, and kicked off with host Erykah Badu kneeling in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick before she dove into a spiel that doubled as a not-so-sly dig at President Donald Trump.

Among the evening's winners were Bruno Mars, who walked away with five of his six nominations, including Album Of The Year for 24K Magic, SZA, who took home the Best New Artist title, and Cardi B who received the Rhythm & Bars Award, formerly the Best Hip-Hop Song Award, for "Bodak Yellow," beating out contenders like Kendrick Lamar and French Montana.

Viewers were treated to a trip down memory lane as supergroup 112 reunited on the stage, upstart Daniel Caesar joined the likes of Kirk Franklin and songtress Ledisi for a performance of great proportions, and Tank tantalized the fans at-home with a showing in which he opted to go shirtless.

The star of the night was ultimately Toni Braxton, who received the Don Cornelius Legend Award, appearing onstage following a tribute from Jessie J. and brothers Luke and Ro James to once and for all prove why she's counted among the greats in the R&B realm. The 50-year old siren also sported a rather large ring on her left hand that left plenty of room for specualtion on that rumored marriage to Birdman.
