Kevin Gates is getting ready to take the stage for the first time since getting out of prison at next weekend’s BET Experience, but before he does so he’s got some new music to share with us first. Following up last month’s 3-song EP Chained To The City, the Baton Rouge rapper decides to come through today and surprise us with a new song called “Therapy Shit.”
Over production from DJ Chose, Gates delivers a gritty, 3-minute lyrical exercise that finds him painting the picture of life in prison and streets, while addressing having to cope with the pain in the process. “Life don't always turn out how we want, but I succeed/ I hustled to live a bit pursuing I achieved,” Gates spits.
No word yet if this is just a loosie for the fans or an early taste of an upcoming project, but hopefully there’s more on the way. Take a listen to the new release and let us know what you think. While you’re at it, be sure check out his latest videos for “Let It Sing” & “Change Lanes,” which both dropped within the past month.
Quotable Lyrics:
I told my wife the plan I also told her she could leave
She cried her eyes out and then abruptly she disagreed
I had to talk in code while giving orders to the streets
