Ugly God recently took to social media to announce his intent to take a break from the realm, a decision sparked by a great deal of introspection and a need to focus on the creation of his forthcoming project.
“I won’t be on social media until 2018.” he penned in a tweet on Saturday. “I deleted both my Instagram & Twitter apps from my phone. I’m in the North Pole right now and I’m not coming back until I do 20,000,00 jumping jacks.”
His newfound direction doubles down on a sentiment he previously expressed via social media back in September, revealing that he'd be opting to shed himself of the "joke-around" persona that comes with his repertory.
"I’m creating no kind of substance or mark. I just want to bring to light that I am very versitle [sic], but I have been scared to show my versitity [sic] for all this time because I didn’t get into this position I am in now because of my versitility [sic]," he wrote on Snapchat. "I felt like if I did show my versitility [sic], people would stop fucking with me."
“I just feel like I’m on the edge of permanently being taken as a joke and that would be the downfall of my career," he went on to add. "There has [sic] been too many people that have come and gone and I refuse to be one of them.” It was this summer that Ugly God dropped off his debut project The Booty Tape. While it arrived to a generally positive consensus from his fan base, it further fastened his role in the "mumble rap" label used to generalize the latest generation of rappers.
He's previously voiced his distaste for the term, and he's set on ridding himself of the label. While there's no word yet on the arrival of his debut studio album, we're hopeful to see what Ugly God produces in 2018.
