The Minnesota Timberwolves will pay tribute to legendary head coach and general manager Flip Saunders tonight prior to their matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers at the Target Center. Saunders passed away in 2015 after a battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The Timberwolves will raise a banner for Flip Saunders and players and coaches, including Flip's son Ryan, who is an assistant coach, will wear special edition sneakers designed by well-known customizer Sal Amezcua, better known as Kickstradomis.
Karl-Anthony Towns has commissioned Kickstradomis for customs throughout this season and tonight he'll lace up a one of a kind Nike Hyperdunk 2018 that features an image of him and Flip. Flip's son will be wearing a Nike Kobe A.D. that has "A.S.N.F" written above the swoosh which stands for "A Son Never Forgets," in reference to the film "Men of Honor," that Ryan and Flip used to watch together, according to The Athletic.
Each of the 17 custom kicks, as well as the game-worn jerseys, will be auctioned off after the game with all proceeds going to the Flip Saunders Legacy Fund.
Lakers vs Timberwolves is scheduled to tip at 9pm ET tonight. You can catch the game, and all of the custom kicks, on TNT.
