This holiday season, singer Syd has made plans to host a celebrity auction, showcasing items owned by herself and a few celebrity friends in an effort to raise money to donate to nonprofits in the Los Angeles area.
“I donate clothes to the LA Mission all the time and one day I was about to donate a really expensive jacket and I hesitated...,” she tweeted out at the inception of a thread, explaining the reasoning behind her decision. “I thought, why donate this expensive jacket when I could sell it and donate the money instead? $1000 can go a lot farther than a jacket.”
As a result, Syd has crafted up the event titled, "Syd's Sidewalk Benefit Auction," which will help the two organizations: Project MuszEd, a nonprofit that "provides resources in music education for youth, schools and organizations," and School on Wheels which "provides tutoring to homeless youth."
"I came up with this auction idea. Get all the celeb homies to donate cool clothes, maybe something they wore in a video or on stage once," she continued in her tweets. "Or some instruments that were used in the making of a dope album, or played on stage at some point." The auction will kick off at 5 p.m. PT on Saturday, December 9th at Los Angeles' The Underground Museum. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time online for a price of $10 and $15 at the door.
"It's just an easy way for us to give back, and I think it could turn into something really big and impactful." Syd adds. "This is only the first one but I hope to continue this forever. Grateful to anyone who's down to be a part of it."
Tickets can be bought and donations can be made here.
