The movie that preaches family before everything else might be welcoming a long-lost brother back into the fold.
According to Entertainment Weekly, film director Justin Lin is said to be in "advanced" negotiations to return to helm the next two installments of the very popular Fast & Furious cinematic franchise. This will encompass volumes nine and ten of the story and will more than likely be the final two movies that the franchise has to offer. Starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, the first movie in the series was about two guys engaging in some street racing in addition to their other criminal activities. Now, the franchise has gone into full-blown globetrotting mode as the characters engage in plot lines that involve world espionage and international intrigue.
Lin's first directorial job in the Fast & Furious universe was on Tokyo Drift, a sequel that has since become a cult classic. He hasn't directed a movie in the franchise's canon since 2013's Fast & Furious 6. Diesel, another major creative force and someone who has helped build the series into what it is now, sounded nothing but excited about Lin rejoining the team. “‘The crowd goes wild,'” Diesel said. “‘It’s a three-point shot that made 9 and 10 incredible.’ You wanted 9 and 10 to be incredible. We’ve heard your concerns about the saga and where it needs to arrive in its final chapters.” Lin was also one of the people responsible for heightening the stakes of the franchise and bringing out of the small-time world of street racing.
Jordana Brewster, who plays Diesel's on-screen sister in the Fast & Furious films, could also be making a return to the series for the final two installments. The screenwriting could be tricky, since she is supposed to be married to Brian, the character that was essayed by Paul Walker until his untimely passing. Who knows what sorts of storylines and action set pieces fan will be from the next two movies, but odds are that big things are being cooked up. The "wow" factor could be off the charts.
The ninth Fast & Furious movie will drop in April of 2020. Are you excited for more of Lin, Diesel and company? Sound off below.
