Cardi B may be one of the most relevant names in rap right now, but it wasn't so long ago that she was struggling to get placements on records. In a recent Instagram Live session, the Bronx rapper shared a story about a track she was on with a few other artists that she was later cut from. "I did a verse to somebody's song. Other artists was in the song as well," she said. "I was so excited because I felt like my verse was so poppin'. Then the artist told me that I couldn't be on the song anymore because one of the artists felt like I was too small and they were too big to be on the same song. I was fresh off Love & Hip Hop."
While Cardi didn't name any names, it was a big enough disappointment that she considered giving up on a career in music. "It broke my heart to pieces," she said. "It was around Christmastime. Nothing could cheer me up. It almost teared me up so bad that I said "I don't wanna do this anymore. I'm just gonna fuck with this TV shit." However, through the support of her team, she was able to overcome the hurdle and grow into what she's become today. It's not clear just how long ago this all happened, but it's pretty crazy to think about anyone turning down a Cardi verse today.
Cardi also assured fans that there are very logical reasons for the timing of her upcoming releases. "Be patient... We wanna make money as fast as we can," she said, dispelling thought that she and Atlantic were purposely delaying releases. "You've gotta clear records... Sometimes you think a song is perfect and then an artist wanna jump on it... A lot of good shit is coming."
