Many feel some type of way about Charlamagne Tha God's persona. Still, Uncle Charla has solidified himself as one of the game's most trusted and entertaining radio personalities; like Howard Stern or Joe Rogan, his name is a draw unto itself. Recently, the Black Privilege author was notably absent during a Breakfast Club interview with Troy Ave. Charlamagne's absence raised a few eyebrows, especially given that he actually bestowed the infamous Donkey Of The Day award onto Troy a few days prior. Some chalked it up as a sick day, but it was later revealed that Charlamagne made the conscious decision to skip out over Troy's proximity to the death of the late Ronald McPhatter.
After a fan called into the show to scold Charlamagne over his decision, claiming "we needed you in that interview," Tha God apologized for nothing. "I'm not on the side of nobody," says Charlamagne, but the caller is having none of it. "Everybody is coming down on Troy Ave but everybody don't recognize how this whole thing stemmed, how it started." Charlamagne retorts, stating ""How about everybody recognize the fact that Ronald McPhatter "Banger" is dead."
The caller raises an interesting question about media responsibility, but Charlamagne felt the energy created by his last Troy Ave interview was too negative to merit a reprieve. Citing the McPhatter family's best interest, Charlamagne felt that Troy's unapologetic nature was simply not worth entertaining a second time. Catch the clip below.
