Former NBA player Ben Gordon was reportedly hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation over the weekend after cops responded to his business, "Of Our Own," a sports rehab and recovery center, for an incident involving a woman.
According to reports, Mount Vernon police responded to a confrontation between Gordon and a 31-year old woman, which lasted about two hours as police freed the woman from inside the locked building.
The woman involved told police that the two were arguing inside "Of Our Own" when Gordon “began to destroy and throw everything" and demanding that she leave. However, once she packed her bags Gordon allegedly locked the door.
According to a police report obtained by The Journal News, police cut through the storefront’s locked entrance to free the woman, and they found Gordon in the bathroom. The woman told police Gordon was in possession of a knife, and a detective attested to seeing Gordon holding a box cutter, but a weapon was never located once he was handcuffed.
The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year was not charged in the incident.
The latest bizarre bit of news involving Ben Gordon, 34, comes just a few months after he was arrested after for pulling fire alarms at his apartment complex while locked out.
The 11-year NBA veteran last played in the NBA as a member of the Orlando Magic in 2105. After leading the UCONN Huskies to an NCAA title in 2004, Gordon was selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls, where he spent his first five NBA seasons. He later signed a five-year, $50 million free-agent deal with the Detroit Pistons, but was traded to the Hornets after just three seasons.
Back in February he told The Chicago Tribune that he still hoped to return to the NBA.
“I still watch the NBA closely. And the more I watch it, the more I’m convinced that there’s a spot for me,” he told the Chicago Tribune. “Hopefully with a contender because I still would love to win an NBA championship.”
