Both Duke and UNC men's basketball teams advanced to the semifinals in the ACC Tournament last night, setting up a rematch of last year's semifinal, which was won by Duke 93-83. The Blue Devils and Tar Heels are scheduled to tip off at the Barclay's Center at 9pm ET tonight, or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the other ACC semifinal between Clemson and Virginia.
Duke, the #2 seed, cruised to victory against Notre Dame yesterday afternoon behind Marvin Bagley III's 33 point-performance. The #6 Tar Heels knocked off the #3 Miami Hurricanes 82-65 thanks to a career-high 25 points from senior forward Theo Pinson.
While Duke beat UNC in last year's ACC semifinal, and ultimately went on to win the ACC title, Carolina had the last laugh when they went on to win the 2017 NCAA Tournament. That's something that the Tar Heels and head coach Roy Williams haven't forgotten.
"You know, last year we lost this game that's going to be played (Friday)," Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said, per ESPN. "I think we kept playing. I think, my memory is not as good as it used to be, but I think we kept playing."
Duke vs UNC will air on ESPN tonight at approximately 9pm. It will mark the 22nd time these two teams have squared off in the ACC Tournament.
