Philly MC Tierra Whack broke the mold in her debut video "MUMBO JUMBO." The image of her undergoing dental surgery and leaving the office with a stitched on smile gave us plenty reason to mark her name down on our calendars. Her artistic direction alone was indicative of an artist with well formed ideas. Since bringing forth her Dystopian message, Tierra Whack has doubled down with her mission address, a 15-minute medley entitled "Whack World."
"Whack World" like her previous work, showcases video conception worthy of Busta Rhymes and Missy Ellott when they were under the tutelage of Hype Williams. The 15-minute medley is comprised of 15 songs no longer than a minute each, each depicting a transmutation from one panel to the next. She begins the video medley under the surveillance of a manicurist, before shape shifting into a vet's office where a dog is itching from flea particles, only increasing in absurdity with every beat switch.
It goes without saying, Tierra Whack is presented a clear and concise image of herself, because that would be too limiting. Think of "Whack World" as a graphic seeing eye lens of the world Tierra inhabits. The Philly rapper is absolutely uncertain of her surroundings, that's why she goes to such lengths with her personal mythology. The comparisons to Missy will undoubtedly follow her wherever she goes.
