After Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, the Star Wars universe has been quickly expanding. Since the announcement, a new trilogy was developed, spin-off's were drafted, and new properties were in talks. One of those secret projects has been revealed. Today it was announced that multi-hyphenate, Jon Favreau will take charge of an upcoming, live-action Star Wars television series.
The newest addition to the Lucasfilm family is known for his work as a director, producer, and writer for projects like Iron Man, Swingers, and the live-adaptation of The Jungle Book. Lucasfilm is excited to have him too. President, Kathleen Kennedy said "Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base." With the kind of influence the revered franchise has, anything Jon needs for the production should be within reach.
Favreau has been a long-time Star Wars fan, mentioning "If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn't have believed you." Before you watch the TV show, you can check out Favreau's live-adaptation of Lion King out in 2019.
