Last month, southern emcee Jaye Newton debuted his most recent "Sunroof Season" project. Riding the momentum that came attached to his "Real Men Wear Pink" offering of last year, the East Atlanta upstart arrived with the new outing with a drive to provide the backdrop to the impending wave of cookouts, late nights, and sundress weather.
“Me and my producer Bossman really just wanted to make a soundtrack to everyone’s summer,” Jaye tells us. “I remember Dom Kennedy, J. Cole and Joey Bada$$ having that effect on me coming up so I wanted to have the same for everyone else.”
Now, he returns with the new clip for the effort’s lead single “Summer Nights.” Directed by frequent collaborator UV Lifestyle, the new clip stages the recreation of the first date that Jaye went on with a longtime girlfriend who doubles here as his leading lady. And if your squinting, you can catch Jaye using the shoot as an opportunity to pop the question toward the end of the clip. “She has held me down throughout my career so far. So, I felt like it was only right,” he adds.
The new video arrives as just the first of a handful of promised deliverables from the "Sunroof Season" EP. As the rollout gets underway, get acquainted with “Summer Nights.”
