The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Washington Redskins Monday night for a battle of NFC East rivals. The spread going into the game was Eagles -5, but that wouldnt even matter as the Carson Wentz-led Eagles took care of business winning 34-24 at home maintaining the best record in all of football (6-1).
The night was owned by sophomore QB Carson Wenz, who beat the Redskins with both his arm & legs. Not only did Wentz throw 4 touchdowns on 265 yards in the air, but he also led the Eagles in rushing on the night, running for 68 yards on 8 attempts. Zack Ertz, Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins and Corey Clement were on the receiving end of his 4 TD’s.
Wentz’s counterpart didn’t do all that bad either, but he just didn’t get much help. Kirk Cousins went 30 for 40 for 303 yards, connecting on 3 touchdowns in the process. Tight End Jordan Reed happened to have caught 2 of those 3 touchdowns, but Wentz was just too much for Redskins’ defense by the end of the game, particularly in the second half.
It’s pretty clear Monday night’s game was a breakthrough nationally for Carson Went. When the lights shined the brightest on MNF, Wentz prove to fans & viewers all over the country that he’s arguably a top 5 QB in the NFL. Hell, with Aaron Rodgers out for the season, Ive actually seen headlines saying Wentz’ might be the second best QB in all football behind Brady, but that might be a little premature. Nonetheless, the Eagles QB balled out Monday night, and showed us that he’s the real deal, as are the Eagles.
However, Monday wasn’t all good news for the Eagles. Nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters suffered a knee injury scary enough for dozens of Eagles to meet him at midfield and the entire crowd to chant his name as he was carted off early in the third quarter. Losing Peters for an extended period will certainly diminish Philadelphia’s offensive line, but Wentz proved Monday that he can handle shaky protection & beat teams with his feet.
