A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is a name synonymous with independent expression. His self-assuming position as a "poet" in the modern sense of New York hip hop would be easy to mock if it weren't for the fact, he's no journeyman at all. A Boogie already lays claim to an ever expanding reservoir of fans, he first amassed after the virality of his record "My Shit" took New York radio by storm.
In the storied development of hip hop in New York, it's hard to believe Boogie is the first name to prop up since Big Pun made Highbridge his home 25 years ago. Although hip hop was evident in his surroundings, especially just South of Highbridge, not every young person chooses solitude with all the bustling activity outside his or her window. Evidently, A Boogie took steps inward when he could have just as easily been a middling part of the puzzle.
HNHH sat down with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie to help explain this phenomenon. Luckily, A Boogie granted us a behind the scenes look at his newly purchased home, where he hopes to lay the foundation of a promising career, and family life. The young father is only beginning to see the effect he has on his community.
Check out what A Boogie has to say about his music, his fans, the effects of leisure, and his community, in our exclusive Digital Cover Story shot exclusively by Matthew Glickman and written by Rose Lilah.
