In a video interview in Paris, Shyne discusses the shooting that led to his lengthy incarceration.

Shyne has certainly been vocal as of late, describing Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city as trash and subsequently engaging in an ongoing beef with The Game.

Most recently, the rapper addressed the nightclub shooting that sent him to prison for close to a decade.

On the evening of December 27, 1999, Shyne and then-girlfriend Monay Hawkins were with Sean Combs and Combs' then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez at Club New York in Manhattan. An altercation broke out during which Shyne discharged a firearm and injured three people. As a result, the young rapper was both charged and convicted of reckless endangerment, attempted murder and assault. Although his pending debut album was eventually released, his career was otherwise put on hold for close to a decade, and he converted to Judaism while at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.

According to Shyne, he acted in self-defense. "One of those people tried to shoot me. You know what I'm saying? One of those people tried to shoot me. One of those people was my homegirl. A woman by the name of Tanya Ruben. She was a singer, she was from my block, she was cool. We would go to the studio together, all that, and I'm definitely sorry that she had to suffer. But there was like four guns going off that night, at least" he explained to booska-p.com.

Check out his testimony below.
