Retired NBA superstar Ray Allen filed an emergency motion in Orange County, Florida, on Tuesday asking a court to throw out a case where he is accused of stalking someone he met online. According to the report, Allen said he is a victim of "catfishing."
Bryant Coleman has accused the 2X NBA champion of stalking him, but Ray says Coleman is the one who is stalking. According to ESPN, the motion filed on Allen's behalf reads,
"Coleman pretended to be a number of attractive women interested in Ray Allen. Ray believed he was speaking with these women and communicated with them."
"He posted about Ray's wife, Ray's children, Ray's dog, Ray's homes, Ray's wife's restaurant, and numerous other personal items," read the motion. "Coleman not only posted about these things, he would actually post while physically located inside Ray's wife's restaurant in Orlando. And he would make sure they knew it, tagging Ray and his wife on those posts."
Also in the filing, Ray Allen alleges that Coleman threatened to reveal details of their conversations, and that they eventually struck a deal to keep everything private. However, Allen said that deal has been violated and Coleman has continued to harass him and his family via social media. He has asked the court to prevent Coleman from "cyber-stalking."
Allen's attorney David Oscar Markus added,
"Ray regrets ever engaging with this person online and is thankful they never met in person," Markus said. "This experience has negatively impacted Ray, and he hopes that others might use his mistake to learn the dangers of communicating online with strangers."
Ray Allen, the NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers made, last played in the league during the 2014 season though he has reportedly been interested in making a comeback on a title contender. The 10x NBA All-Star won two NBA championships during his 18 seasons, including one with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and another with the Miami Heat in 2013.
