The Emancipation of Mimi is long past. New eras are afoot for the game's notorious and well-loved Diva. Mariah Carey recently linked up with Jay-Z's Roc Nation imprint back in November 2017; to complete the reboot, Mariah basically fired her whole team, including her manager. The split was a bit of a tumultuous one, and you can read all about that here. In more timely news, Mariah has continued her forward trajectory with her new label, detailing the process in her new V Magazine cover story.
Mariah revealed that she partook in a meeting of the minds with former collaborator Jay-Z. From the sound of it, the meeting was a fruitful one. "I had a really incredible meeting—just a musical, good meeting of the minds—with Jay Brown, JAY-Z, and Ty Ty, who’s an incredible person,” she said. “We all just kind of threw some ideas around, so we’re starting from the musical place rather than, like, what’s the hook? It’s gotta be done that way.”
She goes on to praise Jay-Z, stating "We just have a history as friends and as collaborators, so it’s kind of a thing that’s already been established." Clearly, there's a mutual respect there that bodes well for Mariah Carey fans; all jokes aside, it would be cool to see Mariah come-back with a focused album. "Heartbreaker" was a banger, and if she can recapture even a fraction of that magic, it'll be a win for us all. Read the full cover story courtesy of V.
