Colin Kaepernick took to twitter moments ago to give his followers an update on Meek Mill, who was recently sentenced to two to four years behind bars for violating his probation. Meek has received an outpouring of support in wake of his harsh sentencing, and Kaepernick says he is humbled by the love his fans have shown.
Kaepernick, who many feel has been blackballed by the NFL for spearheading the national anthem protests, tweeted,
"Spoke to Meek Mill & he wanted ppl to know regardless of his unjust situation, he’s in good spirits & humbled by the support the people have shown him. We'll continue to fight against the harsh sentencing practices that have affected Meek & millions of other POC for generations."
Meek was recently transferred to the State Correctional Institution in Chester, Pennsylvania from Camp Hill, where he was in solitary confinement because prison officials were worried about him interacting with other inmates. He was also recently granted a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on the morning of November 27th at the Center of Criminal Justice in Philly.
Unfortunately, it's being reported that Meek's proceeding will happen in front of Judge Genece Brinkley, who is very judge that had him locked up in the first place.
In addition to Colin Kaepernick, other celebrities have come out in support of Meek Mill since his incarceration, including Drake, who said "Free Meek Mill" while performing in Australia over the weekend, and Jay-Z, who wrote an editorial on the subject.
