Actor Jerry Ferrara, of 'Entourage' fame, has reportedly been named the head scout of the New York Knicks' NBA 2K Esports team. According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the 38-year old diehard Knicks fan will also serve as a creative consultant.
Ferrara spoke with ESPN about his new gig and said it was a natural fit given his love for the Knicks, and his love for video games, specifically NBA 2K.
"It came together naturally," Ferrara told ESPN on Thursday. "I'm an avid Knicks fan, and I love gaming."
"I currently have seven games that I love playing and following," said Ferrara. "But 2K is my No. 1."
"I'm hoping I can help with team chemistry," Ferrara said. "And given my background, we're going to do some cool things with digital so that fans can learn who our players are."
In total, 17 NBA franchises are participating in the league, which includes the draft in March. Each of those franchises will run their own 5-person Esports team to represent them in the 2K League.
The NBA 2K Esports team will actually have a "draft combine" which will take place in February, allowing scouts like Ferrara to observe gamers and make the best selections for the Knicks Esports squad. According to Rovell, gamers can qualify for the combine by winning 50 games in the pro-am mode of NBA 2K18 starting in January.
The league's 16-week season will begin in May.
