The Los Angeles Times revealed that L.A City Councilman Paul Koretz has secured a "permanent protection covenant" with Daren Metropoulos, the current owner of the Playboy Mansion's vast property.
Koretz had initially planned to christen the infamous Californian sprawl as a historic-cultural landmark in order to protect its legacy. However, the new agreement prohibits Metropoulos or any future proprietors of this piece of real estate from demolishing or significantly altering the residence in any way. Additionally, Metropoulos has agreed to make structural repairs in order to preserve the mansion's original condition as best as possible.
The current owner, who is also an heir to the Hostess fortune, purchased the Playboy Mansion for $100 million back in 2016, but allowed its most famous tenant, Mr, Hugh Hefner, to live in the property up until his death.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Metropoulos reveals how "I’m extremely passionate about its architecture and look forward to this momentous opportunity to transform one of the finest estates in the country. As Mr. Hefner was aware, I plan to meticulously refurbish the property with the highest quality and standards in mind. I want to thank Councilman Koretz for working with me to develop an understanding of my vision to restore the mansion while modernizing and replacing important mechanical systems in the structure."
