Note to anyone who's planning on seeing Ashanti in concert at some point in the near future: no matter provocative her dance routines are, don't make her out to be a stripper.
As per a new TMZ report, the R&B singer was performing with Ja Rule in Honolulu, Hawaii when she went off on a group of fans who kept throwing dollar bills at her while she was running through a choreographed lap dance number on stage. It may have be reminiscent of what one might be while in a strip club, but she made sure that no one mistook her for a woman who might actually work at one on the regular.
As video footage from the media outlet indicates, she didn't hold back in her reaction. "I'mma need you to stop throwing that money," she growled at a male fan who could be seen standing right in front of the stage with a wad of cash in his hands. "I am not a f**king stripper," she added, to the rapturous applause of many female concertgoers who were on hand to witness the performance. The vidoe includes a Snapchat snippet of the show where the user states that, while she may not be a stripper in the basic sense of the word, she sure looked like she at least had some practice at some point in her life. See the video below for the complete collection of clips.
As it turns out, the individuals who were making it rain were all employees of a strip club called Ballarrinas, which is supposedly close the venue where Ashanti and Ja Rule were entertaining their fans. In fact, the owner of the adjacent establishment didn't take too kindly to Ashanti's on-stage antics.
Dyamin Thomas used Instagram to express his displeasure with what the R&B songstress had said, commenting: "WAIT Ashanti ain’t that you in your background video throwing money ? And aren’t you giving a lap dance ? Lmfao .. she ain’t say nothing to me but you gonna pick on the small white boy lol my Dj ? Damn."
What do you think? Fair game to be throwing the money or out of line? Sound off in the comments.
