Apple has confirmed their plans to stop accepting album LPs as of this month after Metro UK leaked information that suggested the major change. The company has confirmed the reports to The Verge, that means users will no longer be able to get bundled assets with an album such as videos, liner notes, photos or bonus tracks.
An email was sent out to producers with the subject “The End of iTunes LPs' that said “existing LPs will be deprecated from the store during the remainder of 2018. Customers who have previously purchased an album containing an iTunes LP will still be able to download the additional content using iTunes Match.”
The publication notes that LPs weren't a big part of Apple's revenue, so taking away the feature won't affect the platform too much. If you have purchased any LPs in the past, you're safe as it's still yours.
The feature seems to be a little forgotten, especially with music streaming competitors such as Spotify, Tidal and more. Bonus information for an album can also be found on any given artists Instagram or Twitter, in terms of exclusive photos of lyrical meanings.
Things are really changing.
