Last night some of of hip-hop's biggest celebrities came out to celebrate Barack Obama's presidency at Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball.
The event, which took place at the Harman Center For The Arts in D.C., honored President Obama's second term in office, and also handed out awards to veteran emcees and new-comers alike.
MC Lyte and Doug E. Fresh both received Lifetime Achievement awards. The artist that was everywhere in 2012, 2 Chainz, was given a Street Solider award for his voting campaign, "Respect My Vote." MMG's Meek Mill also received an award as a Community Activist. Producer Swizz Beatz was also given an award.
Rosario Dawson as well as John Legend of G.O.O.D. Music were both given Humanitarian awards.
“Doing my thing on the charts is one thing, but to be getting honored on another avenue, it just feels like a blessing,” 2 Chainz said in an interview. “I’m keeping my head leveled and staying humble.”
Beyonce, Alicia Keys and more will perform at Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony today.
