DJ Critical Hype is known for creating some of the best hip-hop mashup mixtapes. In 2016, he crafted Chance The Dropout, a 23 track mixtape where he placed Chance the Rapper's vocals over Kanye West production. Then, earlier this year, DJ Critical Hype delivered The DAMN. Chronic, which found Kendrick Lamar spitting over classic Dr. Dre records. Now, Hype is back with another mash-up that raises the bar from his previous work (which is no easy task).
More 9th is a play on Drake's project More Life, and it features the 6 god rapping over soulful beats by 9th Wonder. The two worked together on "Think Good Thoughts," a smooth single off Drake's classic Comeback Season mixtape. Since then, 9th and Drake have been on opposite waves. 9th was supposed to chop up some samples for Drizzy on Take Care, but those songs never came to fruition.
Speaking with Pigeons & Planes, DJ Critical Hype revealed his incentive behind combining Drake and 9th Wonder. "Drake was heavily inspired by Little Brother/9th Wonder early in his career so it made sense," he began. "I know after doing one song together ("Think Good Thoughts" from Comeback Season), Drake & 9th said they were working on music but nothing else ever came out. I thought it would be cool to make it happen myself. It also made sense to me because the last couple projects I dropped had that dynamic as Chance was inspired by Kanye and Kendrick was inspired by Dr. Dre early in their careers."
