It looks like Rae Sremmurd are going to need some more room on their wall for another plaque. On Friday, producer Mike Will Made It announced that the ATL duo’s sophomore album, Sremmlife 2, has officially gone platinum this week, selling over a million units since its release last August.
“CONGRATS @RAESREMMURD ( @swaelee x @unclejxm ) And everyone else that helped put this together our SECOND PLATINUM album we 2 for 2 EARDRUMMER RECORDS™ SREMMLIFE™,” Mike Will captioned his post along with the RIAA certificate. Then a few hours later, Slim Jxmmi reshaped the news on his own IG, thanking fans for their support. “Thank you all for the support Sremm2 Platinum #EarDrummers,” he said.
Sremmlife 2, which consisted of 11 records, was led by chart-topping single “Black Beatles,” which itself has gone 5x platinum. Other records that helped move the album were “Look Alive” & “Shake It Fast” with Lil Jon.
For those keeping track, Rae Sremmurd are 2 for 2 with their album releases, having both Sremmlife’s reach platinum status, but can the ATL do it for a third time? We’ll have to wait to find out. Just the other day the duo confirmed that the the third installment in Sremmlife would be dropping in 2018, and not this year as we originally hopped for.
In our 2016 cover story on Rae Sremmurd, Jxmmi said that the duo's third project would be a departure from the SremmLife series, but Swae announced that plans had changed in May. "We gotta keep the chronicles going," he said. "SremmLife 1, 2 -- keep the chronicles going.”
It’s not exactly clear when Sremmlife 3 will be arriving, but if I had to guess, February or March seems like a realistic timeline.
Check out the IG posts (below), and be sure to wish the ATL duo congratulations on their platinum success!
