Mila J is one of R&B's most underrated songwriters. Over the course of 2018, she's proven herself as a prolific artist who refuses to play by the book, and she always comes away with great songs as a result. Mila has been releasing a short project each and every month since January, titling each EP accordingly. Her latest is April 2018, and sticks with the understated songs she's excelled at with the recent releases. On "Welcome To California," she brings the energy up a bit from her generally stripped down productions, but it contains the same intimate appeal as her best songs from her recent run. Here she reps the West Coast hard as ever, gliding over a bassline that nods to Cali R&B history while delivering some memorable wordplay: "California dreamin' on a California king bed." If you're an R&B fan and haven't checked out her EPs, you owe it to yourself to give them a listen. Stream April 2018, the recent installment in what may amount to a full year of music, here. No word on whether or not Mila has a full-length project in the works, but honestly, we're not complaining.
Quotable Lyrics:
I could leave you stuck in traffic
You can find a way that we cheating
Who is fucking in traffic
Stop, you gon' catch a ticket for speeding
The money ain't go no where
The hoes keep coming through
