Dave East Remixes BlocBoy JB's "Rover" On "Maybach"

As Dave East mentions in the epilogue of "Maybach," he's feeling BlocBoy's new stuff out of Memphis: "BlocBoy, my n---- I fuck with the Rover, you know what I mean?." Something must have really hit home for Dave East to make his endorsement so public. East says himself that his advance was spent on a new Rover. It's almost as if the British car manufacturer has become a signifier for making it past the opening rounds as an artist.

Dave East has in time shed his newcomer status, like the rappers before him. BlocBoy JB's sudden emergence on the scene is being touted as a refreshing new voice, and perhaps a water nark for things to come in Memphis rap. As for Dave East, he has cemented his status as a regular contributor in the New York scene. His appearance with Nas in the Netflix series The Rapture felt like a passing of the guard.
