Swae Lee has solidified himself as a leading man in the melodic hip-hop landscape. With the ambitious SR3MM mere hours old, fans are still in the process of digesting the project; it's not easy to choose a starting point, between Swae, Jximi, and Sremmurd's offerings. Ultimately, it wouldn't be surprising to see many gravitate toward Swaecation, after Swae has proven his worth with hits like "Unforgettable" and "Guatemala." While he's capable enough to tackle the bulk of the project flying solo, the lone feature on Swae's debut is none other than Young Thug.
While Jeffery is enigmatic as a general rule, he's given ample time to flex on "Offshore." As Swaecation's longest track, the hypnotic banger finds Swae Lee taking a backseat of sorts, while Thug holds it down with an extensive verse. It's the most focused we've heard Thugger sound in a minute, stealing the show with his melodic flow. "Bossman, I could get homie dropped any day, I'll slap the shit out Donald Trump any day," raps Thug. "Brand new assistant I like, any day, better get it right if you don't want gunplay."
That's not to say Swae's contributions go unnoticed; this is his show, after all. He simply opts to bolster the ambiance, deftly produced by the capable team of Mike WiLL Made-It & Mars. In some ways, it's not unlike Kendrick Lamar's showcase on Drake's "Buried Alive." This is Thugger's moment, and the soft, atmospheric synths make for an easy-going and contemplating listen.
Quotable Lyrics
So in love, I can buy the bitch a ring every day
Stop this rap shit, turn to a mob any day
Bossman, I could get homie dropped any day
I'll slap the shit out Donald Trump any day
Brand new assistant I like, any day
Better get it right if you don't want gunplay
I'ma do it right and fill up the driveway
Bentley on the side and it's sittin' on LeBron James
